KC Irish Fest Kicks off Today at Crown Center

Bookmark and Share

Friday marks the beginning of this year's Irish Fest at Crown Center. This will be the Eighth year for the annual event. The fun starts at 5PM on Friday and continues through Sunday evening starting at 11AM on Sat & Sun. It runs until 11PM each night. There will be shops and food vendors, and of course green beer! Tickets are available at Hy-Vee or at the gate ($15 each, kids 12 & under, Free).

New for this year, Quixotic will perform on Saturday night at 9PM. They blend music, dance, and aerialists in their performance. I think of a Cirque de Soliel type of show (though I have never seen Quixotic). If you can't make it to the Irish Fest, there is live streaming available at the festival website. The Heritage stage has activities and classes relating to Irish Heritage. You can learn how to brew beer, dance the Riverdance, or how to play traditional Irish games. The Red Hot Chili Pipers are also new this year. The eight piece band plays something know as "bagrock" - Think Classic rock on the bagpipes - awesome! They won the British show When Will I Be Famous.

For the little ones, there is a children's area. The theme this year is Halloween - it was invented by the Irish you know. A kids' entertainment stage will run every day until evening as well with acts such as The Toe Jam Puppet Band and The Mad Scientist.
