Kansas City Greek Festival This Weekend

Bookmark and Share

For the 49th year, the Greek Food Festival will be held Saturday and Sunday in South Kansas City. It will take place at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 120th & Wornall. You can buy traditional Greek foods - there will be entertainment, food, and you can even take a tour of their beautiful church. Hours are: Saturday - Noon-10PM Sunday - Noon-6PM. You will spend in the neighborhood of $10 per person for food, but all proceeds benefit Harvesters.

Greek food consists of grilled meats, rice, pita bread, potatoes, salads, and wonderful pastries. For the less adventurous, there is the Gyro sandwich - which most people are familiar with - it consists of grilled seasoned meat on a pita with a tasty cucumber sauce. Greek pastries are excellent such as Baklava. Their desserts feature flaky pastry honey and walnuts, sometimes orange or other citrus flavorings. Carryout is available if you don't have time to stick around for the entertainment.

The young people of the church will entertain throughout the day and evening, performing traditional Greek dances. They will even teach you how to do them. There will be a moonwalk and games for the kiddos as well. Harvesters is great organization, so please stop by and have a bite to eat, especially if you have never had Greek food.
