Randy Moss Released By the Vikings

In a shocking turn of events, the Minnesota Vikings have released star WR Randy Moss. Moss, who was recently acquired from the New England Patriots for a third round pick, was let go from the team following the team's loss to his former team. One major cause for Moss' release was his quitting on a sure touchdown route prior to the play in which QB Brett Favre was knocked out of the game. It didn't help that after the game, Moss held a press conference in which he criticized the Vikings' coaching and complemented the Patriots.

The Vikings are a mess, but this turn of events is a new low. Basically, the team gave New England a third round pick for nothing, now that Moss is gone. Favre wanted Moss, he has since he played for the Packers (which nearly led to the Packers trading Aaron Rodgers for Moss, a potential huge mistake for Green Bay), and since Minnesota's ancient QB has more control over the franchise than the coaches or general managers, the Vikings for the troubled WR.

The Vikings new what they were getting when they traded for Moss. They knew he would stop trying when the going got bad, not run hard on every route, and generally not care if the team was successful. I'm not excusing Moss' behavior, but we all know by now how he acts. Minnesota gambled and lost, and the release of Moss will be just another part of the trainwreck of season the Vikings are putting together.

Brett Favre Scandel Could Tarnish Legacy

Celebrated athletes falling from grace is nothing new, and Brett Favre may be the latest to join the list. Favre is currently involved in a sex scandal from his days with the New York Jets. The future hall of famer is accused of sending inappropriate pictures of himself to Jets sideline reporter Jenn Sterger, as well as leaving her voice mails and other signs of evidence. The scandal may produce a suspension from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, which would bring an end to Favre's epic consecutive starts streak. More importantly, it will likely destroy the legacy of America's favorite All-American athlete.

Favre is one of the most popular and enduring athletes in America today, and there are plenty of good reasons why our country loves him so much. He has constantly fought through hardships in his life and came out stronger, from surviving a near-fatal car accident in college to shredding the Oakland Raiders right after his father died. Favre was that good ol' boy from the Mississippi Bayou, the small-town kid who became the greatest player in the history of America's small-town franchise. Then it all went downhill.

Favre started garnering a lot of negative attention in his public war with Packers' President Ted Thompson and later signing with the New York Jets. After an average season in New York, Favre stabbed Packer fans in the back even further, signing with the hated Minnesota Vikings. Favre's legacy slowly turned from All-American hero to spoiled, me-first prima donna. The sex allegations may be the final nail in the coffin. Remember when Favre's wife was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, and all we heard about for three strait months was Favre's family commitment with the shots of Deanna Favre in the stands? This same player was sending naked pictures of himself to another woman years later. Even worse, we are now learning that this behavior is nothing new for number 4. America has finally caught on, and Favre will now join the long list of Athletes who's personal lives tarnished their legacy.

Brett Favre Returns...Again

Bookmark and Share
Brett Favre finally announced that he will be returning to the Minnesota Vikings this season, after flip-flopping back and forth numerous times as to whether or not he would rejoin the team. Favre's announcement may be surprising to some, considering just two weeks ago he announced he would not return, after saying he was unsure the majority of the summer.

While Favre is one of the greatest quarterbacks to play the game, the drama over his announcements is getting old. Favre's reputation has gone from one of the toughest and grittiest quarterbacks in the league to a spoiled, me-first prima donna.

Then again, can we really blame Favre for taking time to make an important decision. Perhaps his ankle really did need to get cleared, and it is possible he really does struggle with deciding to come back or not. Mostly, ESPN and other sports media outlets are to blame for the circus that surrounds Favre every year. ESPN even had camera crews stalking the quarterback to and from the airport. Favre's penchant for drama doesn't help, but the reason we get sick of Favre reports every year are mostly due to ESPN and other sports outlets shoving the coverage down our throats.
