Another Record Snowfall Pounds the Kansas City Area

Another record snowfall for the Kansas City area, as KCI recorded 6.2 inches of snow. That shattered the old record of 3.8 inches set way back in 1934. Though not everyone got a half foot of snow, everyone in the Kansas City metro got a taste. Snowfall Totals ranged from 2" in the southern parts of the area, up to around nine inches to the northwest. Even die hard snow lovers have had it with winter in Kansas City that if you remember didn't even really start until January. We can hope, but don't expect this to be the last of it either.

There is another storm system setting up that could bring snow to Southern California before bringing heavy rains and possible snow Sunday into Monday.

Hang in there folks it can't last much longer. Check out some snowfall totals from around the Metro.

Overland Park - 2.2 inches
KCI - 6.2 inches
Lees Summit - 2.7 inches
Leavenworth - 8.7 inches
Gran Valley - 1.5 inches
Independence - 4.0 inches
Blue Springs - 4.0 inches
St Joseph - 8.4 inches
Bonner Springs - 5.1 inches
Pleasant Hill - 1 inch

Kansas City Getting Back to Normal After Blizzard

The Great Blizzard of 2011 has come and gone. We survived. Quite a storm, with I-70 shut down for some time in Missouri from State Line to State Line. I'm sure it's happened before, but I can;t remember it. Officially, (at KCI), we had 8.9 inches, but more to the south and east. I estimate about 12-13 inches in my driveway in Lee's Summit. It took me two hours to shovel this morning, made more difficult with the two and a half foot pile the snow plow left at the end of my driveway. If this bullshit keeps up, I'm going to have to get a snow blower. But I guess I shouldn't complain, at least my street got plowed. Lee's Summit does a beautiful job with snow removal and they should be commended.

Kansas City on the other hand is a JOKE. I saw the City spokesman on the news telling people to be patient, they should have it under control "by the weekend". Weekend? It's freaking Wednesday - it is unacceptable for streets not to be plowed by the end of today. Kansas Citians should expect more from City Hall.

Snowfall Totals from around the area:
KCI - 8"
Sedalia, Butler, and Warrensburg - 18"
Overland Park - 9"
The Plaza - 11"
Blue Springs - 13"
Olathe - 12"
Wichita - 5"
Lawrence - 10"

Winter Storm Puts Bullseye on Kansas City

OK, Kansas Citians, It's time to panic! The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Kansas City and the surrounding areas. Snow is forming to our west, and Kansas City seems to be in the cross hairs of a formidable Snow event. Up to 9" can be expected in parts of the area, but 6-7 is likely for most of the metro. The consensus of reports seems to put heavier snowfall amounts to the northern part of the area. Snow storms are somewhat hard to predict, so really only time will tell.

With the storm beginning right before the evening rush and continuing through the morning rush on Thursday, commuters need to be prepared for the chaos that ensues with every snowfall in Kansas City. Also, make sure that you run to the grocery store - buy all the ice melt, bottled water (in my wife's case, Pelligrino), and canned goods you can fit in your vehicles and drive home and STAY THERE!

Hopefully you are not planning on watching anything on CBS tonight as Katie Horner will be enjoying the sound of her voice ad nausium. Actually, with the weak ass lineup CBS has on Wednesday's - Katie Horner prattling on about snowfall amounts in Maryville might be better.
