Chiefs Sign More Players, Dontari Poe Only Draft Pick Unsigned - Kansas City News

The Chiefs have been busy over the past week, making several roster moves as training camp draws closer. On Wednesday, Kansas City signed second-round pick Jeff Allen and fifth-round pick DeQuan Menzie. The Chiefs also inked former Missouri tight end Martin Rucker. On Thursday, they announced the signing of third-round offensive tackle Donald Stephenson.

All of these draft signings means that first-round pick Dontari Poe is the only unsigned draft pick left. It isn’t uncommon for first round picks to hold out or be the last signed, but hopefully the team can come to terms with Poe soon, as the talented but raw prospect could certainly use all the off-season time with the team and coaches that he could get.

The Chiefs also made a move to improve their offensive line, signing the Arena League’s reigning offensive lineman of the year, Rich Ranglin. Ranglin, who also had a stint with the KC Command, is a very athletic and versatile prospect, and should add some depth and experience to Kansas City’s young offensive line.

Chiefs Rookie Mini-Camp Begins Today

The Chiefs rookie mini-camp begins today, giving Kansas City’s recent draft picks and undrafted free agents an opportunity to impress the coaching staff and earn a roster spot. The players will spend some time on the field, while also learning about the team’s facilities while meeting with the coaches.

A rookie luncheon will take place, which allows the new players to eat and visit with Kansas City legends. Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt and former players Bobby Bell, Len Dawson, Emmit Thomas, Jan Strenerud, Willie Lanier, Willie Davis, Danan Hughes, Will Shields and Deron Cherry will be in attendance.

Kansas City signed 15 undrafted free agents to add to a loaded draft class, so there will be a lot of competition for a roster spot. Having significant depth is crucial to winning in the NFL, as Kansas City learned the hard way in an injury-plagued season last year. Hopefully the Chiefs can get their draft picks better acclimated to the pros, while finding a steals amongst their UFAs.
