20s for KC New Charity Project in Kansas City Hands out $20 Bills

A new charity group in Kansas City is doing something that has never been done before in KC. 20s for KC, who are self defined as a "non profit Kansas City stimulus project", are placing $20 bills at random places all over the Kansas City area. This past Friday night the 20s for KC Facebook page reported that it was officially "gas pump night" and they placed several $20 bills on the front of gas pumps all over the city. The $20 bills are easily recognizable as they are in nice bill size white envelopes with a decorative red ribbon and a red stamp that bears the logo of 20s for KC in red. There is nothing in the envelope but a nice crisp $20 and the only form of information at all is the stamp that has the logo and also the website - www.20sforkc.com

We interviewed one of the founders of the project recently and this is what they had to say…

KCMB News: So what do you guys have to gain by doling out $20 bills all over the city?

20s for KC rep: We aren't trying to gain anything financially, or even in terms of advertising. We are affiliated with a local Kansas City radio show called The Sunday Jones Comedy Radio Show and when someone finds one of our $20 bills, IF they go to the website stamped on the envelope, then they are asked to simply tell us where they found the $20 and what they intend to do with it or how they spent it. No strings attached. We then read what people wrote over the air on the show, and we place a virtual "pin" on a map on the website showing where $20s were found.

KCMB News: Do you think that some people will be afraid to open the envelope because of suspicion? Or what if they just throw them in the trash?

20s for KC rep: We did take that into account, and that's just a fact of life in today's society. Paranoia is at an all time high, and we know that some people will probably leave the envelopes right where they are, untouched. We have even taken into account that someone may actually turn one in to the police, haha. That being said, a simple glance at the website at www.20sforkc.com will tell you everything about what we're doing and that there is nothing to be afraid of. And if someone throws one in the trash, I suppose that is a shame but it probably won't be the first time a $20 has ended up in the trash.

KCMB News: Have any of the businesses complained about you guys placing them on their property?

20s for KC rep: Not thus far. We have put a lot of thought into that, avoiding government property etc. and hopefully they will realize that it is probably GOOD for business. I mean if people think that there might be a free $20 bill hanging around their property somewhere then that can only be good for business. Heck, they might even find one themselves, or have one turned in to them by a customer who is confused as to what it might be.

KCMB News: Well this certainly is a first for Kansas City, no one has done anything like this here. We know that comedian Jim Carrey is notorious for hiding $100 bills around, and there is another group that does this around Christmas time in New York. How much feedback are you getting? Are people going to the website and telling their stories?

20s for KC rep: At this time we're getting about 25% feedback on the $20 bills that we have put out so far. That's about what we suspected, we were thinking that if we got 20% that we were doing well.

KCMB News: Thank you for your time and good luck with the new project. We will check back in with you guys in a few months and see how it's going. How long do you plan to continue with the 20s for KC project?

20s for KC rep: No problem. We hope to continue through the duration of the radio show's season which ends the Sunday before the first NFL game.

Two Women Found Dead In Shawnee Mission Park

UPDATE - 5:01pm

It turns out that the two women found dead on the trail near Shawnee Park were twins. Police are now ruling this incident as a double suicide and not a murder suicide. The cause for the twins double suicide is not known but it is suspected that financial problems may have been a factor. The names of the twins have not been released.

Two women were found dead along a rural trail in a Johnson Country park yesterday. The women, who were in their 50s, appeared to have died from multiple gunshot wounds to the head. The names of the deceased have not yet been released.

The women were discovered by a passerby in a wooded area in Gary Halley Streamway Park, located near Shawnee Mission Parkway and Barker Road.  Police got the call which reported the discovery of the two dead bodies around 3:07 p.m. yesterday; however it is unknown how long the bodies had been there.

A gun has been recovered from the scene, as well as a white Chrysler PT Cruiser, which authorities believe is connected to the victims. Neighbors in the area reportedly heard a quick succession of shots, indicating that several bullets were fired.

Johnson County police have not classified the case yet, but are considering that the deaths could be the result of a murder-suicide. Due to the possibility of a murder-suicide, police are currently not looking for any suspects, but are interviewing residents close to the area where the bodies were discovered.  Police have also not released any additional information about the two victims, awaiting autopsy results. More information will likely be released today on the victims and any possibly motives.

Domestic Terrorist Christopher Dorner Believed To Be Dead

Former Los Angeles police officer Christopher Dorner, who had gone on a killing rampage over the past couple of weeks before being surrounded by police in a cabin, is believed to be dead. The cabin in California Dorner was surrounded in erupted into a violent fire, and charred human remains have been found. Forensic tests are underway to confirm these remains are Dorner.

The LAPD has said it his highly likely Dorner is deceased, as authorities heard a single gunshot before the cabin was engulfed in flames. SWAT teams on the scene had fired tear gas inside the cabin and had begun tearing down the building’s walls. It is unclear if the SWAT team or Dorner started the fire.

Dorner was charged with killing Riverside police officer Michael Crain and is the main suspect in the killings of Monica Quan and Keith Lawrence. Quan is the daughter of a former L.A. cop that Dorner blamed for his firing after he reported abuse by another officer. The ensuing manhunt for Dorner became a huge national story, as he was labeled a domestic terrorist and a $1 million reward was placed on his head.

According to Police, Dorner had been hiding in cabins in the California wilderness until he was discovered by two cleaning women. Dorner tied the women up with plastic zip ties, stole their car, crashed it, and then stole a truck. The driver of the truck said Dorner used a gun in the robbery, but allowed him to take his dog out of the truck and didn’t cause him any harm.

Officers quickly closed in on Dorner, and gunshots erupted between the two parties. Dorner killed one sheriff’s deputy and wounded another before fleeing through the woods and breaking into a cabin. After a SWAT team surrounded the cabin, a single gunshot was heard – which could potentially have been a suicide shot by Dorner – before the cabin erupted into a violent fire.

Overland Park Police Will Conduct Saturation Patrols Tonight

The Overland Park Police Department will be conducting a saturation patrol tonight, looking for people who are driving impaired. This enforcement effort will take place in the Overland Park area from 10 p.m. through 2 a.m.

Overland Park Traffic Safety officers will be patrolling the city looking for drivers who appear to be impaired. Those suspicious drivers that are pulled over by the patrol will be required to perform a series of field sobriety tests. The police officers also plan on keeping an eye out for those under the influence of illegal drugs, or prescription drugs that should not be taken by anyone operating a vehicle.

A saturation patrol is a common police tactic in which a large number of police officers focus on a relatively small geographic area. Multiple agencies often combine and concentrate their resources on one area during these patrols to maximize efficiency. Many police forces have used this tactic following sports events or other occurrences when there is potential for a large number of impaired drivers to be on the road.

Saturation patrols have been an effective tool for reducing drunk-driving incidents in many other communities. Kansas City has had several traffic incidents caused by alcohol over the past several months, so it is no surprise that police have begun cracking down. Many Overland Park residents choose to visit downtown bars and restaurants on the weekends, making the suburb a likely target for police.

The Overland Park police department asks that anyone who sees a driver that appears to be impaired report them by calling dispatch at 913-895-6300.

Lee's Summit West Football Star Charged With Armed Robbery

Lee Summit West High School’s Jamone A. Boyd, one of the top prep football players in the state of Missouri, was charged yesterday with armed robbery. Boyd is accused of robbing several victims at gunpoint in a Kansas City apartment.

Court records depict that Boyd and several other men pushed their way into an apartment with five people inside, striking two victims in the head with a pistol while pushing others to the ground. The burglars stole cash, electronics and clothing, and warned the victims that if they attempted to leave the apartment after the robbery, they would be gunned down with assault rifles. The robbers also threatened to return and rob the victims again in a couple of weeks.

Boyd is being charged with five counts of robbery in the first-degree, as well as five counts of armed criminal action. Prosecutors have requested a bond of $150,000. Boyd has turned himself into police and has denied being involved in the robbery; however, four of the robbery victims have identified Boyd.

The football star, who is 6’4 and 250 pounds, has been rated a four-star defensive end and has received interest from all of the local Universities. Boyd was scheduled to sign a letter of intent tomorrow to play football at Butler Community College, deciding to improve his grades at the junior college after originally committing to Kansas State.

This hasn’t been Boyd’s first run-in with the law. In November, he was cited for possessing marijuana and resisting arrest. After this incident, Boyd was sent to Summit Ridge Academy. He was benched for one game last season at Lee’s Summit West after receiving a detention in school, which is a violation of team policy.  Lee’s Summit West head football coach Royce Boehm and district athletics director Darwin Rold have not yet commented on Boyd’s actions.

Quintin O'Dell Admits To Murder Of Alissa Shippert & Assault Of Another Woman In Platte City

Quintin P. O’Dell of Northland has admitted to the killing of Alissa F. Shippert and sexual assault of another woman. By admitting to these crimes and sparing a long criminal trial, O’Dell will avoid the death penalty and be sentenced to life in prison.

O’Dell, who was Shippert’s coworker, attacked and killed the 22-year-old in 2011 along the Platte River area with a hatchet. Shippert and O’Dell were considered to be friends, as both worked at the Casey’s Store in Platte City.

O’Dell also sexually assaulted another woman several months later, disemboweling her with a razor blade. O’Dell slashed the woman’s abdomen in her living room, causing her intestines to fall out. After surviving the attack, the woman was able to identify O’Dell to police. O’Dell had attended high school with the victim.

Prosecutors have yet to determine what the motives were behind O’Dell’s attacks, but he has been put on medication for a bipolar disorder.

Prosecutor Eric Zahnd originally sought the death penalty as a result of O’Dell’s heinous crimes, but the families of the victims did not want to go through a long, drawn out trial that had the possibility of multiple appeals. O’Dell’s murder count carries an automatic sentence of life in prison without parole, and he was also charged with first-degree assault, 100 years each on two counts of armed criminal action and seven years for deviate sexual assault. The sentences will run consecutively, which guarantees that O’Dell will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Autopsy Reveals That Former Chiefs Linebacker Jovan Belcher Was Legally Drunk

The autopsy of former Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher performed by the Jackson County medical examiner has revealed that Belcher was legally drunk when he shot and killed his girlfriend, Kassandra Perkins, before fatally shooting himself in the parking lot outside of the Chiefs practice facility.

Belcher’s blood-alcohol level was .17 just before 8:00 a.m., around the time that he committed suicide in the Chiefs’ parking lot. This level is more than double the legal driving limit in the state of Missouri. Perkins had little to no alcohol in her system when Belcher shot her nine times following a heated argument in the home the couple shared.

What is most disturbing about Belcher’s high blood-alcohol level is that he encountered Kansas City police only a few hours before his murder-suicide. Belcher had been out partying with another woman he had a relationship with, Brittney Glass, before being found in his vehicle outside of Glass’ apartment building by police around 3:00 a.m. Belcher was asleep in his running car when he was awoken by police, who allowed Belcher to go into Glass’ apartment and did not arrest him. The officers claimed they could not smell any alcohol on Belcher.

Belcher would leave Glass’ apartment only a few hours later, returning home legally drunk before the fatal argument started between he and Perkins. Kansas City police were called by Belcher’s mother, Cheryl Shepherd, at 7:52 a.m.

The autopsy on Belcher helps explain what is quite possibly the most disturbing episode ever involving a Kansas City sports team. With a blood-alcohol level of .17 at the time of his death, it is clear that Belcher was heavily intoxicated when he encountered police the night before, although the officers simply allowed him to sleep it off at an apartment belonging to his girlfriend, and couldn’t have known Belcher would wake up a few hours later and drunkenly drive home and confront Perkins.

Kansas City Police Vehicles Burglarized

Seven vehicles were burglarized yesterday, including six police vehicles, in the area of east 76th street and Breckenridge Avenue in southeast Kansas City.

Kansas City Police Major Anthony Ell, who lives in the neighborhood in which the vehicles were located, suspects that the thieves were after police radios, bullet-proof vests, uniforms and weapons. The Kansas City police department has not released what was specifically taken from the vehicles. The thieves were able to burglarize the police vehicles by smashing out the windows.

Ell stated that it would be difficult for the thieves to use the stolen radios and computers without the proper police codes. The primary concern for the police department has to be any missing weapons and uniforms, as the thieves can now impersonate an officer.

Four unmarked Kansas City police cars were also burglarized; however the KC Police Department has stated that no weapons were taken from these vehicles. The seventh vehicle that was broken into was a civilian vehicle.

For those that are forced to park their car outside of a garage, this crime spree should serve as a reminder to never leave valuable items in your car overnight. The police department must also bear some responsibility – police cars are stocked with weapons, uniforms and other items that cannot fall into the wrong hands, and officers need to take further measures in regards to securing their vehicles. Police cars will always be a main target of thieves, especially when they parked sitting in a dark neighborhood and unattended.

Woman Uses Facebook To Accuse Man Of Physically Assaulting Her

The picture Taylor uploaded to Facebook
A woman who had suffered physical abuse posted a picture of herself at Liberty Hospital on her attacker’s Facebook wall, leading to a charge of second-degree felony domestic assault.

Amber Taylor, 23, was found in a bathtub at a motel after being hit in the head with the handle of a baseball bat and knocked unconscious by 19-year-old Austin McCauley. A witness who found the woman initially feared that she was dead. McCauley also held a knife to his throat after the attack in front of other witnesses, threatening to hurt himself if any contacted the police.

Witnesses say that Taylor and McCauley have been living together in the motel room for a little over two weeks. After McCauley assaulted Taylor with the bat, he took her to the bathroom to clean her up before threatening to kill both the witnesses on the scene and himself with a knife.

Austin McCauley
It is believed that McCauley’s attack started after he found text messages on Taylor’s phone between herself and another man.

The woman then snapped a picture of herself recovering in Liberty Hospital and posted it to McCauley’s Facebook page using his account, where it received 6,500 likes and has been shared over 700 times. Taylor wrote on the picture’s caption “I want everyone to know who he is bc he is fake and honestly NO woman ever deserves to be in my spot.” Many people have left comments of praise and encouragement for the woman.

McCauley is currently in police custody with a court date scheduled for December 31.

In today’s world filled with social media outlets, one’s actions will get magnified. McCauley learned that the hard way, and thousands of people now know he is assaulted a woman, left her for dead and then threatened to kill others. Many people are weary of how platforms like Facebook have invaded our privacy, but in cases like this, they can help deliver justice.

Jovan Belcher Shooting: 911 Tapes Released, Belcher Spent Night At Other Girlfriend’s Apartment

The Kansas City police have released several of the 911 tapes from the morning of Jovan Belcher’s murder suicide, and a more accurate story of Belcher’s hours before the shooting has emerged.

Belcher’s mother, Cheryl Shepherd, called 911 immediately after Belcher fatally shot his girlfriend, Kasandra Perkins, who was also the mother to the couple’s three-month-old daughter. Perkins was still alive when Shepherd called 911, as Belcher’s mother can be heard pleading with her in the tape to remain alive. Shepherd then told dispatchers that Perkins was bleeding and barely awake, but moved when she spoke to her. By the time paramedics arrived on the scene, Perkins has succumbed to the multiple gunshot wounds.

Another twist in this horrific story is that Belcher had an encounter with police only hours before the shooting took place, at an apartment complex that he noted was the residence “of his girlfriend.” Police responded to a report around 2:50 a.m. of a man sleeping in his car outside the apartment building. Belcher got out of the car when the police approached him, and was cooperative with the officers. He told police that he was there to visit his girlfriend, but she wasn’t home. Belcher then called the woman, thanked the officers, and was let into the apartment complex by the woman. It is unknown at this time who this woman is, as she was not questioned by the police as Belcher was cooperative and did not appear to be any threat at this time.

According to witnesses, Belcher stayed at the apartment until 6:30 a.m., a mere hour and twenty minutes before police were called after he shot Perkins and headed to Arrowhead Stadium to take his own life.

More Details Emerge From Jovan Belcher Murder-Suicide

Due to the release of several police reports, more details are emerging from the murder-suicide of former Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher. Belcher shot and killed his girlfriend, Kasandra Perkins, early on Saturday morning, before driving to Arrowhead Stadium and taking his own life in front of several Chiefs coaches and general manager Scott Pioli.

Belcher’s mom was home during the events that unfolded early Saturday morning, and her testimony has given us a better idea of exactly what happened. According to her reports, Belcher and Perkins had been arguing for months, and things got heated when she returned home late after a concert on Friday night. Belcher then shot Perkins, kissed her on the forehead and said he was sorry. He then apologized to his mother, kissed his three-month-old daughter goodbye, and headed towards the Chiefs training facility.

In the parking lot outside the Chiefs stadium, Belcher ran into GM Scott Pioli. Belcher apparently stepped out of his car with his gun already pointed to his head, immediately telling Pioli what he had done. Belcher thanked Pioli for what he had done for him, and then asked Pioli and to take care of his daughter.

Later, head coach Romeo Crennel and linebacker coach Gary Gibbs approached Belcher, and joined Pioli in trying to convince Belcher to put his weapon down. When Belcher heard the sirens of the police cars approaching, he knelt down beside a vehicle, made the sign of the cross, and fired his gun.

The Chiefs organization had already been made aware of the problems between Belcher and Perkins, and had been providing counseling and other assistance to the couple to try and help them sort out their problems.

Police are not sure if alcohol played a factor or not in the shooting, as toxicology tests are currently being performed on both Perkins and Belcher. It now appears that Belcher shot Perkins in the heat of an intense argument between the couple, and then ended his life when he realized the ramifications of what he had done.

Chiefs' Jovan Belcher Kills Girlfriend, Commits Suicide At Practice Facility

Reports are coming in that the unidentified Chiefs player who killed his girlfriend and then took his own life is Javon Belcher.

The first shooting occurred around 8:00 a.m. this morning, at 54th street and Chrysler Avenue. Police say that after Belcher fatally shot his girlfriend, he then drove to the Kansas City Chiefs' training facility where he took his own life. Belcher was 25 years old.

After Belcher drove to the Chiefs facility, several members of the team's staff tried to prevent him from committing any other violent acts. When police arrived at the scene, Belcher was standing in the parking lot holding a gun to his head. As police got out of their vehicles to talk to Belcher, he fired his gun on himself.

Belcher was in his fourth season with the Chiefs after playing his college ball at Maine. After seeing action in a few games his rookie year, Belcher earned a starting job next to Derrick Johnson in the Chiefs' 3-4 defense. In 2010 he recorded 84 tackles, and last season he recorded 87 tackles. He had 38 tackles while starting 10 of the Chiefs' 11 games this season.

The Chiefs will host the Carolina Panthers tomorrow at 12:00 p.m.

Micah Moore's Defense: Bethany Deaton's Killer's Confession Was Fake, Death Was Suicide

Two weeks ago, a man charged with the killing of Bethany Deaton confessed to the murder, and also indicated that Deaton’s wife Tyler, an International House of Prayer Leader, ordered the killing. Now the defense of Micah Moore, the man accused of killing Deaton, is claiming that Bethany’s death was a suicide, and that Moore’s entire confession was made up.

Moore had initially told police that he and other members of the prayer group shared by the Deatons had sexually assaulted Bethany Deaton and were afraid that she would tell someone about their actions. Moore said that Tyler Deaton ordered to have his wife killed to keep the actions of his religious group a secret.

Moore’s lawyer is now recanting this confession, calling it bizarre, nonsensical and untrue. According to the defense, Moore was distraught after the suicide of his friend Bethany and the removal of Tyler as a religious leader from their community.

What makes this story interesting is that police initially ruled Bethany Deaton’s death as a suicide. Officers found her body in a minivan parked by a lake with a plastic trash bag over her head that was tied below her chin. A suicide note and an empty bottle of over-the-counter pain medication were found at the scene as well.

Later, Moore confessed that it was he who held the bag over Deaton’s head, and he held it there until her body shook. After killing Bethany, he then reported back to Tyler informing him that he had killed his wife.

According to court documents, the men who lived in the house owned by the Deatons began drugging and sexually assaulting Bethany Deaton, which led her to start seeing a therapist. It is also believed that the men in the house were engaging in sexual acts with Tyler Deaton, which Bethany was not aware of. One man has confessed that Tyler Deaton said after his wife’s death that he had a dream he killed his wife by suffocating her.

Did Bethany Deaton commit suicide after suffering through sexual abuse at the hands of her husband’s religious outfit, or was she killed by Micah Moore on the orders of her husband? This is the new focus of the story, and the main focus of this case now turns to Moore and the validity of his confession.

Jessica Ridgeway's Killer Due In Court Today

Jessica Ridgeway’s killer, Austin Sigg, is due in court today in Colorado, where the ten-year-old was kidnapped and killed on her way to school. Sigg, 17, is being charged as an adult with murder, kidnapping, sexual assault, and other crimes.

Ridgeway, who has extensive family in the Kansas City area, disappeared on October 5th. Her remains were found five days later in a field at a local park. Sigg’s mother called the police to report her son, and authorities say that Sigg has confessed to the murder of Ridgeway and the attempted kidnapping of a 22-year-old woman several days earlier. It is unknown if he has commented on the sexual abuse charges made against him in Ridgeway’s killing.

Sigg’s conviction could become complicated due to his age. Since Sigg is 17, his lawyers could have asked a judge to move the case to juvenile court after the prosecution charged him as an adult. Sigg’s defense has not made that request, and attorneys on both sides have not been able to comment due ot a judge’s gag order.

Sigg faces the following charges: four counts of murder, two counts of kidnapping, one count of sexual assault and one count of robbery in Ridgeway’s kidnapping and killing. He also faces charges of attempted murder, attempted sexual assault and attempted second degree kidnapping in the attack of the runner. He is also being charged with six counts of crime and violence.

If Sigg is convicted as an adult, he would face up to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 40 years. Man Charged With Bethany Deaton's Murder Claims Her Husband, An International House Of Prayer Leader, Ordered The Killing

Micah Moore

Yesterday, Jackson County prosecutors reported that Micah Moore, who has been charged with the murder of Bethany Ann Deaton, claimed that he was instructed to kill Deaton on the order of her husband Tyler.

Tyler Deaton, Bethany’s husband, is a spiritual leader of a group that uses sex as a part of its religious mission. Moore claims that he and other members of the religious group engaged in a series of sexual assaults on Bethany at a house in Grandview, MO, where many of the group members live. Moore then stated that Tyler Deaton ordered him to kill Bethany. Tyler is now officially under investigation for his wife’s murder.

During questioning at Grandview police headquarters, Moore explained that he and other members of the group gave Bethany Deaton Seroquel, a prescription ant-psychotic drug, before sexually assaulting her. Moore claims that the men in the house then engaged in sexual acts with Tyler Deaton. According to Moore, Deaton ordered his wife to be killed afterwards due to his fear that she would reveal the activity in the house to her therapist.

Bethany Deaton’s body is currently being examined by the Jackson County medical examiner’s office. Her body was discovered on October 30 in a van at Longview Lake with a plastic bag over her head, her killers intending for her death to be an apparent suicide.

Deaton and several acquaintances joined the International House of Prayer in Kansas City, although the group’s president, Allen Hood, has claimed that Deaton is part of a group that has operated separately from IHOP “under a veil of secrecy.” Bethany Deaton was one of those who followed Tyler to Kansas City from Texas.

Bethany Deaton had been working as a nurse at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, KS, and had planned to serve as a missionary overseas with Tyler.

Manhunt In Riverside Underway After Man Attempts To Abduct Girl

Riverside police are currently conducting a manhunt to try to catch a man who grabbed a 13-year-old girl this morning and attempted to drag her into a wooded area. The girl was waiting at her bus stop located in the 4900 block of Northwest Gateway Avenue, and the attempted kidnapping occurred at 6:30 a.m.

The girl was able to escape from the attacker after several people near the scene noticed the attacker and scared the man off by yelling at him. The man released the girl and fled into the woods.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male in his 30s, with a dark complexion and a heavy Hispanic accent. He has dark hair and dark eyes, and stands around 5 feet 8 inches tall with a thin goatee. At the time of the attempted kidnapping, he was wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt with multi-colored stripes.

This situation is particularly troubling for Kansas City residents as it eerily resembles the kidnapping of Jessica Ridgeway. Ridgeway, who has family in the KC area, was kidnapped and murdered by Austin Reed Sigg on her way to school in Colorado. Ridgeway’s murder and this latest kidnapping attempt in Kansas City shows that parents need to be extremely cautious in regards to how their children travel to and from school.

Anyone who may have information on the situation or the suspect should contact the Riverside Police Department by calling 9-1-1.

Austin Reed Sigg Arrested For Jessica Ridgeway Murder

Police have arrested 17-year-old Austin Reed Sigg in the murder case of 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway, who was killed earlier this month in Colorado. Ridgeway disappeared on October 5 while walking to school, and her remains were found five days later in a field at a park

The death of Ridgeway has become a hot local topic due to her family in the area. Ridgeway’s father, Jeremy Bryant, as well as her other family members addressed the media today in response to Sigg’s arrest.

Sigg’s mother told police that her son had turned himself in, but it is believed that she actually called the police department. Attention has now shifted to who exactly Austin Sigg is what his motives were behind a violent killing of a young girl. Acquaintances and neighbors of Sigg described him as “goth” and a bit of a loner, often dressed in black and could be seen on a skateboard or scooter. Sigg was reportedly interested in mortuary science, but it is unknown what classes he was currently taking at Arapahoe Community College.

Sigg will also be charged with the attempted kidnapping of a 22-year-old woman in another area park, an incident where a runner fought off an individual (thought to be Sigg) who tried to put a rag soaked with chemicals over her mouth.

Hopefully Sigg’s arrest can allow Ridgeway’s family to begin to feel some closure, and let a community that has been shaken to its core begin to heal. Sigg is scheduled to appear in court today, and will most likely be charged and convicted of first-degree murder. Some has speculated that Sigg may have not acted alone; more details should surface as Sigg’s statements and testimonials are made public.

Woman Dies From Hit-And-Run Accident In Johnson County

Johnson County has had yet another hit-and-run death, the second occurrence in the last month. Police are currently searching for a driver who failed to stop after hitting a pedestrian late on Tuesday in Overland Park.

The incident occurred around 10:40 p.m. last night near West 71st Street and Metcalf Avenue. A 35-year-old woman was hit by the driver and then rushed to the hospital by emergency crews. The woman died a short time later from injuries she sustained from the crash. The Overland Park Police Department is currently investigating the incident.

This alarming trend is a sad recent development in the Kansas City area. It is one thing to accidentally hit someone while you are driving, but only the lowest human beings on the planet would actually drive away and leave the person they have just struck to die. Accidents happen in cars, and the penalty for accidentally hitting someone while you are driving is nothing compared to a hit-and-run incident that ends up costing someone their life.

Much like the hit-and-run incident off of 1-35 that cost Christopher Randolph his life, alcohol could be a contributing factor to this situation. People drive when they shouldn’t, make a mistake that injures someone, and don’t want to face the penalty for driving drunk. Randolph’s killer was found, and odds are the person behind the wheel last night will get caught as well.

These incidents should also serve as a warning to those who travel by foot at night. With no reliable public transportation and the way the metro is set up, people unfortunately routinely choose to drive impaired, especially on weekends. All Kansas City metro residents need to be aware that when the sun goes down, the roads are dangerous. That is the sad reality of the area we live in.
