Kansas Legislature Defeats Prescription Cold Medicine Bill

The Kansas Legislature killed a bill in committee that would have required a prescription for the decongestant pseudoephedrine. Missouri is currently is considering a similar law. The chemical, which is the active ingredient in medications like Sudafed and Actifed, is used in the illegal manufacture of Methamphetamine. Some lawmakers would like to limit the availability of the drug to help in their fight against Meth, but others say making the medication prescription would put a burden on all people by making a costly and inconvenient trip to the doctor a prerequisite for using a safe and effective treatment for the common cold.

Currently, anyone purchasing medications containing pseudoephedrine have to provide an ID and purchases are logged in a database with info kept for two years. The system is real time and is designed to keep a "smurfer" as they are called from going from pharmacy to pharmacy buying small amounts of the substance.

The two states (Oregon and Mississippi) that currently have prescription pseudoephedrine laws on the books have reported a substantial decrease in Meth production. Laws like this can work, but we have to decide as a society if we are going to give up our rights to help fight the insidious Meth epidemic around the nation. I, personally am not in favor of these kinds of laws. I always stand on the side of more liberty, not less - but I do understand the other side. Meth is a horrible, horrible drug that truly destroys lives.

Neighborhoods of Kansas City - Independence

Neighborhoods of Kansas City - Independence, Missouri

In our ongoing breakdown of Kansas City neighborhoods, in the interest of those who may be considering moving to Kansas City, we will focus this article on the city of Independence.  If you wish to catch up on the articles that preceded this article please visit:  Kansas City neighborhoods, ghettos, downtown, plaza, brookside, waldo and more and our more recent article on the outer city of  Lee's Summit.

Independence, Missouri, was the birthplace of former President Harry S. Truman and is an important hub for The Church of the Latter Day Saints, or the "Mormons" as they are more commonly referred to.  Independence was a common starting point for those who traveled along the Oregon Trail, California Trail, and The Santa Fe Trail and is therefore known as the "Queen City of the Trails".  The population of Independence is approximately 130,000 as of 2010, and it's racial makeup is 91.87% White, 2.59% African American, 0.70% Asian, 0.64%, and Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.69% of the population.  The median household income is around $38,000 per year.

And that's about where the positive facts end.  Independence gained recent fame by becoming the 3rd largest manufacturer of Methamphetamine (Crystal Meth) in the entire United States.  It is currently the birthplace of a new form of Crystal Meth called Blue Meth, or "Smurf Dope".  Needless to say, Independence has some seriously bad neighborhoods.  Mostly white trash, petty-crime-committing drug addicts who frequent the multitude of porno shops and payday loan stores that litter the streets everywhere you look.

On a good note, Independence has areas where a few older "farm-type" folk reside and their respective neighborhoods are fairly docile - just don't go up the street to get gas at Quik Trip or you will immediately be immersed in the local criminal trash.  Basically, Independence is a place to be avoided at all costs - unless you need to break into a house, go next door to the pawn shop and get cash for the items you just burglarized, then go next door to the porn shop to meet a drug dealer who will sell you some shiny new Blue Meth.

Stay tuned for more Kansas City neighborhoods - broken down honestly by people who have lived here for over 35 years.  Don't listen to that real estate agent who is trying to unload a house on you that has been on the market for so long the real estate firm is offering a bonus to the first agent to move someone in.

Meth Head Shot and Killed in Ruskin Heights

Police were called to a Burglary in progress this morning in the Ruskin Heights area of Kansas City. When they arrived they found two white males (in Ruskin?) outside a vacant house. One man had a 3 foot long metal pole in his hand. When confronted by Police and told to drop the pole, the man charged. Big mistake - DRT (Dead Right There). If you prefer to live, do follow the directions of a Police officer. Their main goal every day is to return home in one piece, and they will shoot you if they feel their lives are threatened.

The dead man is one Kenny Gurley, 40 years old. He was killed in the back yard of the home directly behind where he lived with his pregnant girlfriend. Kenny is (was) a Meth Addict. Know this, if you do Meth - IT WILL KILL YOU - one way or another, eventually it will kill you.

A few burglaries had been reported in the neighborhood in the last week. According to his family, Kenny had been clean for a year and started a guttering business before recently relapsing into his Meth Habit. Sad, for his family - Sad for his unborn child.

Also sad for the Police Officer that had to pull the trigger. It can't be easy to shoot someone, and of course later to find out that person had a child on the way - and incidentally, Kenny was probably a decent fellow when not doing drugs. I've known a few like him.

Of course, the family will likely sue the Police Department - another frivolous lawsuit for the courts. Remember kids, Drugs are Bad, mkay.

Missouri Wants Presciption for Some Cold Medicines

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon and Attorney General Chris Koster want new laws regulating the sale of Over the Counter Cold Medications that contain Psuedoephedrine. The chemical is the single most important substance in the manufacturing of Methamphetamine. Current Federal law requires all medications containing psuedoephedrine be kept behind the Pharmacy counter and a photo ID required for sale. Since these measures have been enacted, the Missouri meth lab count has fallen form a 2003 high of near 3,000, to around 1700. Last September, the State launched a new electronic system to help pharmacies trace those who buy more than the legal limit of the medications - that is not enough, says Nixon.

Well, with government it is never enough. No amount of government intrusion is ever enough. Don't get me wrong, I think keeping the medications behind the counter is a prudent and relatively convenient solution to a problem that does need addressing. Meth is nasty stuff, I've seen what it does to people first hand. Requiring a prescription to obtain cold medications is NOT the answer. As with so many government "solutions", it creates a larger problem that it tries to solve. Going to the doctor is not cheap, and it is prohibitively expensive for some folks. These medications provide cheap, effective relief for cold and allergy sufferers, and many simply would not go to a doctor to get a prescription. Give the new tracking system time to work. With health care costs the way they are now, in "crisis" as Obama likes to say, lets not find ways to drive up costs.

Kanrocksas Music Festival Lineup Tickets Kansas Speedway

Eminem, Muse, The Black Keys, A Perfect Circle, The Flaming Lips, Kid Cudi, D12, Girl Talk, Flogging Molly and more are headed to the Kansas Speedway on August 5th and 6th for the Kanrocksas Music Festival.

I've heard of stupid names before for concerts, Yallapalooza, etc. but Kanrocksas is without a doubt THE dumbest name for an event that I've ever heard.  How in the hell did THAT name get out of the meeting room?  It's like a tribute to illiteracy.  Well, it makes sense since given the bands that will be on stage will certainly draw Kansas City's biggest morons.  If they posted up a police checkpoint at the front gate and checked everyone for outstanding warrants, they would need 50 buses to fit them all in.  This will be the biggest gathering of white trash that Kansas City has ever witnessed in one place.

Kanrocksas is expected to draw near 100,000 attendees and they are providing camping grounds for fans to stay overnight.  This is NOT a good idea.  The kind of people who would want to hear bands like the King of White Trash himself, Eminem, are not the kind of people who will all get out of this alive.  I'm going to guess that there will be at least 3 deaths at Kanrocksas, and at least 1700 babies conceived.  I'm going to take another wild guess that Crystal Meth will be the substance of choice among these well educated and sophisticated fans, giving them the opportunity to stay up for the entire 48 hours of the concert without needing sleep or food.  The last concert that hosted this many white trash attendees was the 2010 Warped Tour where there were only about 2500 people and 1 person still died of dehydration.  This time there will be 100,000 drunk crystal meth heads in the dead heat of August, you do the math.

There is one shining light for Kanrocksas in that it will definitely be a good place to people watch.  There will definitely be some camo shorts, steel toe boots, the over sized man earrings that make the earlobe stretch out (those are so cool), various trashy tattoos, and some classic white trash girls who look really cute.........until they speak, that is.........  think Mallory from Natural Born Killers (pictured right).

Tickets for the Kanrocksas Music Festival are on sale at Ticketmaster as follows:

Clifford Miller Charged With Murder of Britny Haarup and Ashley Key - Kansas City News

After 3 days of searching, the story of two missing girls from Edgerton, Missouri, Britny Haarup and Ashley Key took a very disturbing turn when Clifford Miller, a 31 year old man from Trimble, Missouri admitted to murdering the girls and told police where their bodies were hidden. Clifford Miller has been charged with first degree murder and is in jail in Platte County on a $500,000 bond. Authorities have not yet released information as to whether or not they will seek the death penalty in this case.

Clifford Miller admitted to police that he had been smoking crystal meth before he drove to Britny Haarup's home in Edgerton, planning to rape her. It is not yet known what the relationship between Clifford Miller and Britny Haarup was, but he obviously knew where she lived. As Miller told it, he entered Haarup's home and discovered Ashley Key sleeping on the couch. She attempted to stop Miller, who then hit her in the head and suffocated her. Miller then said that he went into Britny Haarup's room, beat her with a stick (a stick?) and suffocated her as well. Clifford Miller then took the two bodies and put them in his pickup truck before returning to the house to clean up blood, after which he most likely drove the pickup truck to the location where police found it on the side of the road abandoned on Saturday afternoon.

Two children of Britny Haarup's, ages 6 months and 18 months were home at the time of the murders. Britny Haarup and Ashley Key were allegedly murdered in the home on Friday morning before being moved in Clifford Miller's truck to a dirt road near Trimble, Missouri where Clifford lived. It is unknown at this time what transpired after Clifford parked the truck, but somehow he made it to his girlfriend's house in Parkville, Missouri where he then informed police that he murdered the girls and he also told them where he put their bodies.

Clifford Miller told police and investigators that he was smoking crystal meth heavily during the murders, however this will have no effect on his sentencing as being under the influence of alcohol or drugs cannot be used as an excuse to commit a crime in the state of Missouri. Clifford Miller is no stranger to the criminal life, as he has been charged with a felony (unknown type) as well as drunken driving charges and also driving while suspended.

Clifford Miller charged with murder of Britny Haarup and Ashley Key by Kansas City News, official kc news site with breaking stories on The Kansas City Royals, Chiefs, charity events, the 2012 MLB All Star Game, weather, sports, MU, KU, ufo sightings, dui checkpoints, Kansas City neighborhoods, nightlife, concerts, the Sprint Center, the Power and Light District and current Kansas City news articles.

Snorting of "Bath Salts" Becomes Popular and Deadly

I've seen and heard of people doing crazy stuff to try and get high - Smoking Banana Peels, Sniffing Paint or gasoline. But I have never heard of snorting "Bath Salts". Apparently this is a substance that has been around for some time in the UK. It's really not a bath salt, that's just the way it is marketed to get around the law. There are numerous sites on the Internet that you can purchase the stuff.

The drug causes a high similar to meth, but serious side effects have been reported. Extreme paranoia, Shortness of breath, increased heart rate all have been reported by users. Some say they feel these effects days after taking the drug. extreme paranoia has lead to numerous suicides - One in St Joseph, Mo where a young man shot himself a few days after taking the drug.

The scariest thing about these "Bath Salts", is that we don't even really know what is in them. And the formulas seem to different from dose to dose and brand to brand. Some have speculated it has a derivative of the drug MDPV in it. MDPV is specifically illegal in the UK and other European countries, but there is some debate about whether or not it is legal in the US. Though not specifically illegal, it could fall under several states laws that ban derivatives of dangerous drugs.

This just goes to show that people will look for ways to get high, no matter how dangerous, or how little they know about what they are putting in their body. It's sad really, why they can't be happy just having a beer or smoking a joint (or both at the same time) like the rest of us is beyond me. Maybe the world is better place if these people do off themselves and can't reproduce.

Dead, Frozen Baby Found in Pickup Truck Bed in Kansas CIty

Kansas City Police are investigating the discovery of a dead baby. The baby was found wrapped in a plastic bag in the back of a pickup parked in a driveway in the 11300 block of East 49th St. Police went to the house on Kansas City's east side on a tip from a man who was at the residence January 9 and heard a woman giving birth. The man was back at the scene some days later and asked about the baby; "What baby?" was the response from Wanda Benanhaley, 38, of the residence.

That man called Kansas City Police who responded to the residence. Wanda and boyfriend told Police the baby was stillborn, so they threw it in a plastic bag and into the back of a pickup. The Officers were surprised to find the body still in the truck - MORE THAN TWO WEEKS AFTER THE BABY WAS BORN! What the fuck is wrong with these people?

Wanda has a long history of run ins with the law. Drugs, mostly - she probably does a lot of meth to look at her. Currently the boyfriend has not been charged, and Wanda was arrested on an outstanding warrant. As soon as the body thaws, an autopsy will be done, I'm sure it will be easy enough to tell if the baby was stillborn. At the very least, these two pieces of white trash should be charged with abandoning a corpse or something. Disgusting Animals!
