AFC West Standings - Chiefs Top AFC Standings

The Kansas City Chiefs keep their seat at the top of the AFC West Standings
by Kansas City News

With today's thrashing of the Denver Broncos, The Kansas City Chiefs continue to dominate the AFC West.  The media has not yet fully accepted the fact that the Chiefs are the best team in the AFC.  Sports media reps continue to talk about how great the Chargers are, and hardly even mention the Chiefs during AFC West breakdown discussions.  One reason for this is probably because everyone LOVES Philip Rivers, and cannot accept the fact that his team is just not as good as they should be.  The Chargers prematurely let LaDainian Tomlinson go and he went on to be a big yard producer with the Jets, who are a real team and also sit atop their division (see AFC East Standings).

Hopefully after this week the sports media will begin to take the Chiefs seriously and put a hush on all of the Chargers talk.  The Chiefs have worked harder than any team in the NFL this year and you can tell.  This team, led very emotionally by Todd Haley has established themselves in a category that every team attempts to master - the running game.  Only the strongest teams can put up the kind of rushing yards that our beloved Chiefs (using Mr. Wonderful's terminology) are putting up, and that shows a commitment to the running game that every NFL team strives to build.

Until further notice, the Kansas City Chiefs are the best team in the AFC - don't believe us?  Check out the AFC West Standings and deal with it.

Northwest Missouri, Central Missouri Meet in Division II Playoff

Northwest Missouri and Central Missouri will meet Today in the NCAA Division II quarterfinals. This game is a rematch of the best game in the MIAA this season. The Bearcats defeated the Mules back in November on a last second field goal to give Northwest the outright MIAA title for the five consecutive year. Northwest has also reached the National Championship game in four consecutive seasons and is 18-0 (not counting Championship games) in the playoffs since 2004.

Central will have revenge on it's mind after the heartbreaking loss at home to the Bearcats earlier this season that brought the largest crowd in history to Central's home stadium, more than 13,000. The MIAA title was on the line that day, but this one is for something bigger, a chance win their region and move on to the National Semi-finals. This season marks the farthest the Mules have ever advanced in the playoffs, and is probably the biggest game in their history. It also marks the 90th meeting between the two schools dating back to 1921 with Northwest leading the series 53-34, with 2 ties.

Central's Quarterback Senior Eric Czerniewski leads all of Division II in passing with 4995 yards and 44 TDs on the season -shattering all Central and MIAA passing records, and currently sits #2 all time in NCAA passing yards in a season. That's a lot of yards, can this guy play on Sundays?

The game will be televisized on Metrosprots at 1PM Today (Saturday Dec 4, 2010)

Missouri Wants Presciption for Some Cold Medicines

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon and Attorney General Chris Koster want new laws regulating the sale of Over the Counter Cold Medications that contain Psuedoephedrine. The chemical is the single most important substance in the manufacturing of Methamphetamine. Current Federal law requires all medications containing psuedoephedrine be kept behind the Pharmacy counter and a photo ID required for sale. Since these measures have been enacted, the Missouri meth lab count has fallen form a 2003 high of near 3,000, to around 1700. Last September, the State launched a new electronic system to help pharmacies trace those who buy more than the legal limit of the medications - that is not enough, says Nixon.

Well, with government it is never enough. No amount of government intrusion is ever enough. Don't get me wrong, I think keeping the medications behind the counter is a prudent and relatively convenient solution to a problem that does need addressing. Meth is nasty stuff, I've seen what it does to people first hand. Requiring a prescription to obtain cold medications is NOT the answer. As with so many government "solutions", it creates a larger problem that it tries to solve. Going to the doctor is not cheap, and it is prohibitively expensive for some folks. These medications provide cheap, effective relief for cold and allergy sufferers, and many simply would not go to a doctor to get a prescription. Give the new tracking system time to work. With health care costs the way they are now, in "crisis" as Obama likes to say, lets not find ways to drive up costs.

There Will Be No World Cup 2022 in Kansas City

FIFA today announced the hosts for World Cup 2018 and 2022. Russia was awarded the 2018 games in a bit of an upset. England was seen as the favorite in the race that also included joint bids from Spain/Portugal and Belgium/Netherlands. The 2022 World Cup will be held in Qatar. Qatar beat out the United States, Australia, Japan and South Korea.

England's chances were hurt by a recent investigation by the BBC into possible corruption within FIFA regarding the bidding process (bribes). Russia also was considered the favorite venue of FIFA President Sepp Blatter who favors new locations to add to his legacy. FIFA, like many international organizations (think UN), don't always use a great amount of logic in their decision making processes, lots of politics and favor trading.

Qatar's award of the 2022 World Cup makes little sense. It is a tiny country and currently has only one stadium anywhere near the quality of a World Cup venue. Their Soccer team is not good (they would gain an automatic bid the Cup for being the host country), temperatures average way over 100 degrees in the summer, not to mention the terrorism is real threat in a Middle East country holding a high profile event. Alcohol is illegal, though they say they will have designated areas during the event where it will be sold, and their society will have to relax other rules that pertain to public displays of affection, men and women socializing together, etc.

The US will likely bid for the 2026 World Cup. Hopefully, Kansas City will be in those plans, too.

Milburn Country Club Fire Caused by Roofers

The Overland Park Fire Department thinks a propane torch being used by roofers at Milburn Country Club started the huge fire that destroyed the clubhouse Monday Afternoon. According to witnesses, a small fire was started by welding on the roof. The workers extinguished it (or at least thought they did), but it reignited later and set off an automatic fire alarm alerting the Fire Department. Conditions were perfect Monday afternoon for a fire to spread rapidly with extremely dry air and high winds.

Damage to the nearly 100 year old building was extensive, and it is probably a total loss. Good news, however, the golf course was not damaged, and members clubs were not stored in the building that burned!

This morning there was another massive fire at a house in the northland. Investigators say the fire was deliberately set, twice. Overnight, Firefighters were alerted to a house fire on North Madison Ave around 68th St by a passing policeman. That fire was contained, but a second fire was then set that significantly damaged the structure. Police say it was vacant.

A. Foreclosure proceeds will not go through as planned

or

B. Pissed off ex-renters.

Time will tell. I'm sure they will be caught if the investigators already know it was arson.
