Billy Butler's Blast Leads Royals To Victory - Kansas City News

On a day in which Texas’ Josh Hamilton made headlines by hitting four home runs in one game, Billy Butler decided to grab a bit of the spotlight as well. Butler hit a three-run homerun in the eighth inning to propel Kansas City to a 6-4 victory over Boston. The win improved the Royals’ record to 10-19 on the season.

It appeared that Kansas City was on its way towards another frustrating loss. Despite giving up just three runs, Danny Duffy struggled and lasted 4 1/3 innings. Kansas City’s offense had a big third inning, but had been dormant since. The game was in doubt until Daniel Bard walked both Jarrod Dyson and Alex Gordon in the eighth. That would be the end for Bard, who struggled with his control all night and even had two balks. Boston’s Matt Albers relieved Bard, and three pitches later, Butler crushed a pitch to give Kansas City a lead it would not relinquish.

While Butler’s homer will get all of the headlines, several other Royals had key contributions to the win. Chris Getz and Humberto Quintero both came up with big hits in the second inning to drive in some runs. Getz has significantly improved his performance at the plate this season, and has been a pleasant surprise for a Royals team that is struggling to consistently score. Kansas City also got quality pitching from Kelvin Herrera, Jose Mijares and Jonathan Broxton after Duffy left the game. With the Royals’ starting pitching struggling lately, it is encouraging to see the bullpen step up.

The Royals’ face the Red Sox again tonight at 7:10 p.m. A victory would give the Royals a winning record in its AL East home stand against New York and Boston. Bruce Chen (0-4) will start for the Royals, while Jon Lester (1-2) will take the mound for the Red Sox.

Loss To Red Sox Highlights Royals' Pitching Woes - Kansas City News

After splitting four games with the New York Yankees, the Royals began another AL East series last night against the Boston Red Sox. Once again, Jonathan Sanchez failed to last deep into the game, and Kansas City lost 11-5. - Kansas City News

Sanchez’s struggles are not unique to the Royals pitching staff – Kansas City’s pitchers are averaging fewer than five innings per start, which is the worst in MLB. Early in the season, it appeared that starting pitching might be a strength for Kansas City; however with the recent struggles of the staff, most notably Luke Hochevar, Danny Duffy appears to be the only starter who can keep opposing offenses from lighting up the scoreboard- Kansas City News

The poor pitching wasted a decent outing from the Royals offense, who managed to keep pace with the Sox until Boston scored four runs in the eighth to put the game away. The loss drops Kansas City to 9-19 on the season, eight games out of first place in the AL Central.

Kansas City will face Boston in game two of the series tonight at 7:10 p.m. Duffy (2-2) will get the start for the Royals, while Daniel Bard (2-3) will take the mound for the Red Sox. - Kansas City News

Recap Of The Chiefs 2012 Undrafted Free Agent Signings - Kansas City News

The 2012 NFL draft has come and gone, yet the Chiefs have been busy adding more rookies to their roster recently by signing 15 undrafted free agents. Not only does Kansas City get an opportunity to find a potential diamond in the rough, but undrafted free agents provide excellent competition in camp. As history has shown, several players currently on the Chiefs’ roster have needed a bit of a kick in the rear during camp in the past- Kansas City News

Building through the NFL draft is essential to constructing a championship team, yet undrafted free agents play a bigger role than most realize. Two seasons ago, the Packers were hit hard by injuries and relied heavily on several undrafted free agents while making their run to a championship. Other top organizations, such as New England, are notorious for stockpiling depth and talent with UFAs. - Kansas City News

The following is a full list of the players Kansas City has signed:

WR Josh Bellamy, Louisville

TE Tim Biere, Kansas

DB Neiko Thorpe, Auburn

DE Ethan Johnson, Notre Dame

RB Nate Eachus, Colgate

DB Jean Fanor, Bethune Cookham

FB Taylor Gentry, North Carolina State

DB Tysyn Hartman, Kansas State

LB Dexter Heyman, Louisville

OL Cam Holland, North Carolina

DB Chandler Fenner, Holy Cross

OL Justin Cheadle, California

WR Brandon Kinnie, Nebraska

DB Terrance Parks, Florida State

K Matt Szymanski, SMU

The Chiefs nabbed quite a few defensive backs, including former K-State standout Tysyn Hartman. Also keep an eye on Parks, who had a very productive career at Florida State. Kansas City could use some improved depth at safety, and one of the incoming DBs could very well be suiting up for the Chiefs sometime this fall. - Kansas City News

Another local name Chiefs fans might recognize is Tim Biere, formerly of the Kansas Jayhawks. Biere has shown a lot of talent, but got lost in the shuffle during the offensive horror that was the Turner Gill regime. With Tony Moeaki returning from a season-ending injury and some inconsistency with the other TEs on the roster, don’t be surprised to see Biere make the team.

Adam Yauch Dies of Cancer at 47 - Kansas City News

After a 3 year battle with cancer of the salivary gland, Beastie Boys founder Adam Yauch has died at the age of 47.   Adam Yauch, known to many as "MCA", has been fighting an aggressive form of cancer since 2009, making it difficult for The Beastie Boys to finish their latest album "Hot Saucy Committee Pt. 2" and also caused Yauch to miss the Beastie Boys induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Adam Yauch was not only a member of the Beastie Boys but also the director of the Beastie Boys videos, including a full length concert video called "Awesome; I Shot That Shit!" in which a unique style of filming was introduced where a select few audience members were given video cameras and shot the concert from their seats.  Adam Yauch later put all of the video footage shot by the fans into the movie format.  The movie was one of the best live Beastie Boys concerts ever caught on film and it was produced by Adam Yauch's Productions company called Oscilloscope Laboratories. - Kansas City News

Adam Yauch was also very involved with the Milarepa Foundation, an organization dedicated to freeing Tibet.  The Beastie Boys have references "monks" and "monk music" in many of their albums and they also performed for several benefit concerts for the Milarepa Foundation. - Kansas City News

Adam Yauch - The Beastie Boys

The Beastie Boys crashed the party in 1986 with their New York style of blending punk rock with hip hop music.  Adam Yauch and the Beastie Boys have influenced many other artists since the late 80's.  Their first album, Licensed to Ill went straight to number 1 on the Billboard Charts and if you went to a party in the late 80's, that was the album that was continually on the CD deck.  Combining punk rock guitar, infectious rap and a little humor for good measure, Adam Yauch and The Beastie Boys had teenagers memorizing the lyrics to their entire albums - who knows the words to "Brass Monkey"?  Anyone?  Of course you do. - Kansas City News

Often referencing their New York ties, The Beastie Boys were the heroes of their hometown and their fan base spread quickly as their unique style easily crossed over from the rock crowd to the rap crowd, something that had not been done prior.  Adam Yauch and The Beastie Boys often used "samples" in their music such as drum beats from Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, horn hits from James Brown and other R&B artists.  Sampling was a much more open commodity in the late 80's and did not become a serious crime until later, when the bands who were sampled began to sue - such as the famous Vanilla Ice vs. Queen lawsuit that basically cost Vanilla Ice his career - and most of the proceeds from his hit song "Ice, Ice, Baby". - Kansas City News

Adam Yauch will be dearly missed by all of us, but his music will live on for eternity.
