Charity Event - National Health Care for the Homeless - Kansas City News

The National Health Care for the Homeless Council marches into Kansas City - Kansas City News

On Thursday evening several hundred charitable souls joined forces in Kansas City in the local of Washington Park across the street from Crown Center at Pershing and Grand.  The charity organization, National Health Care for the Homeless, held a fun and upbeat rally in the park that included inspiring speeches, music and dancing, and marching "homeless" people holding up signs for all to see.  The event was held to raise awareness for the homeless in the United States and the fact that most homeless people do not have any form of healthcare.  This week their focus was on Kansas City.

The mission statement of the National Health Care for the Homeless claims that the road to being homeless often starts with a health problem that leads to unemployment, lack of physical ability, and eventually debt and loss of residence or "homelessness". The charity event held in Kansas City was to raise awareness in Kansas City about the causes and consequences of homelessness in the city and the need to work together to end homelessness.  The NHCH believes that this effort must begin with Universal health care, or access to health care.  This is not to be confused with Obamacare, which scares most Americans due to it's ties to Socialism.  The National Health Care for the Homeless are simply trying to give the homeless of America a chance to acquire simple health care.

The NHCH was in Kansas City on Wednesday night as well, holding a charity gala, produced in part by Adam Blue Productions, at the Sheraton Crown Center (formerly The Hyatt Regency) where they had a beautiful reception, dancing and even a little karaoke.

More information on the charity organization from their website:

Integration of service and advocacy is the hallmark of Health Care for the Homeless. The principles of the National Health Care for the Homeless Council encourage homeless service providers and their clients to engage in advocacy to prevent and end homelessness. We strive to accomplish this goal by educating public policy makers, mainstream health care providers, and the general public about the causes and consequences of homelessness in the United States, and by working at national, state, and local levels to ensure:
  • Universal access to health care
  • Affordable housing regardless of income
  • Livable wages for persons able to work
  • Public support for persons with disabilities
  • Strong and effective safety net programs until universal solutions are implemented

Dusty McGrew Charged With Statutory Rape of Boy - Kansas City News

A social services worker in Marshall, Missouri, 31 year old Dusty McGrew, has been charged with statutory rape and statutory sodomy of a 16 year old boy. - Kansas City News

A concerned mother of the 16 year old boy suspected foul play when her son constantly talked about a woman who worked at Butterfield Youth Services in Marshall, Missouri named "Dusty". This started when the boy in question was only 15 years old.  The boy's mother, named "Kim" lives in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and for whatever reason does not have legal custody of her son.  He has been in the care of The Butterfield Youth Services, a center for children where their slogan is "Our focus is on children; keeping them safe, helping them to heal, educating them, caring for and about them and motivating them to find a positive direction".  Well, it appears that Butterfield Youth Services employee Dusty McGrew, took this slogan a little too far, as she is accused of having sex with one of the boys from the center.

Kim told the press that the Butterfield Youth Services called her for permission to allow her son to spend Thanksgiving with Dusty McGrew and since Kim had no suspicions about McGrew at the time, consented.  Although at Christmas, McGrew bought the boy a new cell phone and then Kim started to get suspicious. The boy's mother finally confirmed her suspicions when she arrived at Butterfield to find her son out in the parking lot talking with Dusty McGrew.  Kim confronted Dusty directly, and when asked about their relationship, both told the mother that they had a "mother-son" relationship.  As the onion of this story was peeled, however, many witnesses came forward telling of a different kind of relationship between the 16 year old boy and Dusty McGrew.  Reports from other children at Butterfield Youth Services claimed that McGrew and the boy had sex together on several occasions, even going as far as to have sex in the back of cars while other children were in the front of the car.  The children who claimed to be present during these car sex scenes, said that Dusty McGrew would stretch a jacket over the car seats so that the kids in the front couldn't see what was happening in the back seat.  The other children also said that McGrew and the 16 year old boy had sex in a nearby park.

Dusty McGrew had even deeper plans for this boy, she was in the process of trying to gain custody of him. Although the state would not allow this arrangement, the boy called Kim on April 18th and told her that he was "fixin' to split" and Kim feared that the boy was planning on running away to be with McGrew. McGrew has children of her own, and claimed that they all got along with the boy.

What is interesting in this case is the fact that they are not only charging Dusty McGrew with statutory rape, but they are also charging her with statutory sodomy.  Now that's just plain nasty.  This story lacks the glamour and humor of the Debra Lafave story, whereas that story involved a fairly attractive teacher having sex with her 14 year old student.  Most in the media made light of this story as it seemed like a school boy fantasy to have sex with their hot teacher, and in this case succeeded!  Ah, but this is the midwest, and our female subject in this story is a routine hefty midwestern lady who decided that she wanted to get a little bit more involved in the life of a 16 year old boy enrolled in the Butterfield Youth Services program.

Dusty McGrew is currently out on bail, meaning that it couldn't have been set too high, and there is a court date scheduled for May 23rd. Kim says that she believes her son is still in contact with McGrew at this time.  She says that she will try to make the court case if she can afford to travel to Marshall from Oklahoma.

Royals Back In Contention With Win Over Rangers - Kansas City News

After an embarrassing 12 game losing streak, it looked like the Royals were headed towards another disappointing season. However, Kansas City has won four games in a row and suddenly finds itself back in contention in the AL Central. Last night, the Royals beat the Texas Rangers 7-4, improving their record to 15-20.

The story of last night’s game was Vin Mazzaro, who made his season debut against the best offense in the American League. Mazzaro was called up to replace Danny Duffy, who was recently lost for the season due to an elbow injury. The young right hander gave up three runs over five innings, keeping the Rangers in check while the Royals offense got big hits from Billy Butler, Mike Moustakas and Bryan Pena to take the lead. Kansas City also got a strong pitching performance from reliever Tim Collins, who struck out five of the six batters he faced in two innings of work.

The question now is can Kansas City keep its momentum going? The loss of Duffy is a huge blow to the starting pitching rotation, and the Royals have some tough series coming up. The good news is the Royals have a puncher’s chance to reach the top of the AL Central standings, something that was unimaginable a few weeks ago.

Kansas City will look to keep its winning streak alive tonight, when they begin a three game series with Baltimore. Felipe Paulino (1-1) will start for the Royals, while Tommy Hunter (2-2) will get the start for the Orioles.
