Fiesta Azteca Moves to Lee's Summit

The best Mexican Food in Kansas City has moved to Lee's Summit. Fiesta Azteca opened it's doors at the new Lee's Summit location last night. Owner Andres Orozco provides the same outstanding food and friendly service that has made his restaurant a hit for seven years at a tiny location in Raytown. The new location is three times larger, in a much newer building and features actual restrooms (not a tiny closet with a toilet). Mr Wonderful had the pleasure of dining there last evening and it was delightful as usual.

Fiesta Azteca offers all the traditional dishes and combinations that you would find in any Mexican restaurant, but where this place shines is the authentic Mexican menu. They offer steak, chicken breast or Carnitas (pork) in a variety of excellent presentations with tasty sauces. If you don't know what to order, Mr Orozco will be happy to order for you, as I have had him do a few times for me. Everything is excellent.

Fiesta Azteca is also known for their Margaritas, They are as big as your head, and really pack a punch. This is not your pre-made store bought mix, it's the real deal - bring a designated driver. They also have a giant burrito called the "El Azteca" - over six pounds of burrito, if you can eat it all, maybe you can be a TV star.

Keith Sweat, Rick Springfield and the Weekend in Kansas City

80's icon Rick Springfield will be performing Saturday night at the Midland Theatre in Kansas City. The show starts at 8PM, tickets can be purchased here - prices range from $30 - $80.

You know, whenever I think of Rick Springfield I always think of the movie "Boogie Nights" with Mark Wahlberg and John C Reilly - the scene where they are at the drug dealer's house getting ready to rob him. "Jesse's Girl" is blaring on this guy's stereo - the Asian guy's in the background lighting firecrackers in the living room, and everybody is coked out of their minds. What a great scene in a great movie - if you haven't seen it, rent it tonight.

Keith Sweat, 90's R&B star, will be performing at Municipal Auditorium on Saturday night at 7PM. Tickets are on sale here. Prices range from $40 - $60.

The Nutcracker - The Kansas City Ballet's annual performance of The Nutcracker starts Saturday evening and runs through Christmas Eve at the Music Hall. Two shows every Saturday and Sunday, with more performances as we near Christmas, information and ticket info can be found here. Ticket prices range from $25-$95.

If you can brave the weather on Saturday and like to run, Kansas City parks and Recreation is holding it's annual Kris Kringle 5K in Swope Park. Runners can register up until 9:30AM on Saturday morning, race starts at 10AM. It will be bitter cold, so bundle up!

Missouri Pulls Out Overtime Win Against Vanderbilt

The Missouri Tigers Basketball team escaped with a victory last night at Mizzou Arena beating unranked, but solid Vanderbilt in overtime 85-82. Marcus Denmon came on strong for the Tigers in the second half only hours after his cousin, Marion died from injuries sustained in a shooting late last Friday. After having an abysmal first half, Denmon scored 19 in the second half and overtime including a layup and free throw to give the Tigers their final three point lead with 5 seconds left. Denmon and his cousin grew up in the same Kansas City house and his death obviously affected his play in the first half. Denmon leads the Tigers in scoring this year averaging over 17 points per game.

A disturbing trend is developing with the Missouri Tigers Basketball team. The last three games have come down to the final play before the buzzer. Last week, Missouri blew a late lead and folded in overtime against a good Georgetown team - then traveled west two days later and let a poor Oregon team back in the game after amassing an 18 point halftime lead (and growing it early in the second half). The Oregon game can probably be chalked up to tired legs, but the Georgetown and Vanderbilt games are signs this team still has work to do. They continue to leave players WIDE open for three-pointers and will continue to be troubled be teams that can shoot the three. Wild swings in games is something we have grown accustomed to as Missouri fans with Coach Mike Anderson's "Forty Minutes Of Hell" style of play, but the Tigers have to play better defense. They probably will, as every Mike Anderson team at Missouri has gotten better throughout the year.

Missouri has now won 51 consecutive non-conference home games. That's pretty cool. Oh yeah, and KU can SUCK IT!

Matt Cassel Appendectomy Injury Report for Chiefs

Matt Cassel Has Appendectomy Surgery - Injury Report for The Kansas City Chiefs
by Kansas City News

Today the question about why Matt Cassel was suddenly absent from Wednesday's practice was answered when it was reported from The Chiefs camp that Cassel had an emergency Appendectomy this afternoon.  Cassel, who has been performing great on the field for the Chiefs of late will likely miss up to 4 weeks due to this injury.  At the very least he will miss this Sunday's game when the Chiefs play the San Diego Chargers - a must win game for the Chiefs.  According to medical sports experts, the earliest that a player has returned from an appendectomy was 10 days, but the injury should likely sideline a player for up to 4 weeks.

While we are all happy that Cassel will be okay, this will surely affect the outcome of the game against San Diego this Sunday.  Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones will really have to step up and carry The Chiefs to a victory this week.  With Cassel out, Chiefs backup quarterback Brody Croyle will be the starter.  Croyle has not thrown a pass in regular season this year, while Matt Cassel has thrown for 2503 yards, with an astonishing 23 - 4 touchdown / interception ratio with a passer rating of 98.4.

The Chiefs officially gave Cassel a 50% chance of starting once the news of his appendectomy was announced, but this statistic is very doubtful according to medical experts.

'Tis the Season for Stolen Cars!

Car theft is on the rise in Kansas City, and other cold weather cities as people leave their cars running unattended. Kansas City Police have reported that in the last 10 days there have been 8 stolen vehicles, with three of them being cars that have been left running unattended. We have all done it on a cold day, run into the store real fast and leave the car running so it will stay warm, or start the car in your driveway to warn it up. Don't do it, it makes you an easy target for thieves.

Actually, it is illegal (in both Kansas City and many cities in Kansas), you could end up with your vehicle stolen, AND get a ticket from the police. Leaving your car running unattended is stupid, certainly, but so is a law against it. It is even illegal to leave your car running in your own driveway. What's next, will it be illegal to leave your house unlocked? Have something valuable in your car? What about just being stupid, should there be a law against that? (there aren't enough prisons).

Anyway, just pay attention people and turn your car off when you get out of it and take the keys with you. And for God's sake, don't leave your baby unattended in a running car! Sheesh!
